I think the odds of the airline losing our luggage are low in our case, considering we are taking a nonstop Air Canada flight YVR-LHR this July.

However, the problem is, the next morning we are taking BMI to Paris.

Suppose the worst happens and Air Canada loses our luggage. We can't stick around to pick it up in London, so how would we get it later?

Perhaps you could provide the phone number of your Paris hotel? This way, they can call and arrange for your luggage to be delivered to you.

An airline has lost our luggage once in all our business and pleasure travels - so fortunately I am not an expert.

But, when your luggage does not appear, you fill out a claim form and tell them where you will be/how to contact you. - they never just send it someplace. So you can tell them what to do with it. In our case, USAirways had the luggage chase us until we met again.

One thing husband and I do is each pack a change of clothing for the other in our suitcase - figuring the chance of losing both pieces of luggage is small.

That's a good suggestion. I try to remember to do that when I have a traveling companion. I don't think I've had lost luggage since I was a kid in the 1970s, but it's always something I worry a little bit about .
