In the case of Membership Rewards transfer bonuses, I believe the bonus comes from Amex which is why Delta can't help you in this situation. I've transferred points from MR numerous times to take advantage of a transfer bonus and only once has the bonus not posted automatically. I contacted MR after waiting the 12 weeks, and they credited my account with the appropriate bonus.
In general I've found the service I receive from MR to be very good. The last time I needed to transfer points I was short a few hundred. I was ready to buy the necessary points, but without me asking the agent simply credited my account the extra points and thanked me for my years of participation in the program. I thought that was a very nice gesture.

I'm using my Platinum Skymiles companion cert for LAX-DRO. Based on the new rules for the cert (as posted by NoFlyZone above) -
Primary ticket $445.30
Companion ticket $48.30
Total for 2 $493.60
This includes tax for the companion ticket and the airport ticketing charge of $15 for both. Lowest current (U) fare is $430.30.
I have to get the tickets issued at the airport but I need to drop my mom off this afternoon anyway.

To update, I returned last week from the above trip. Even though the companion isn't technically supposed to earn miles, the miles posted. I'm pretty happy with the way the new Platinum Skymiles companion cert works and will be looking forward to receiving my next one. Plus I got a 5% discount on top of that for using my Platinum Skymiles Business card.
Beginning this year the spend threshold for earning bonus MQMs has also been changed to a calendar year basis with an additional threshold added. It's now spend $25,000, earn 10K MQMs, spend $50,000, earn an additional 10K MQMs for 20K MQMs total a year.
For 2007 ONLY, those who were already cardholders prior to this year, get the benefit of having both their anniversary year as well as the new calendar year spending counted for a possible total MQM bonus of 30K.

I booked a Delta ticket over the phone tonight. They said I had until tomorrow midnight to cancel. If I got the Delta AE Plat card today, can I get 5% off my flight (assuming I cancelled and then reissued the ticket)?

Clem,
It has to be the business version of the Platinum Delta Skymiles card, not the personal version. If you don't have a "business", you can use your SSN as the tax ID and select sole proprietorship. There might even be a short application if you already have another card product.
The only thing is I don't know if you'd get the card in time to re-purchase right away. I'd call and see how soon they can get the card to you. Maybe they could overnight it to you.
Also it doesn't have to be the Plat version of the business card, I believe all versions of the business Skymiles card get the discount. You can usually get the Gold card fee free for the first year but there's rarely a waiver for the Plat card which is $135 a year. However, the Plat card comes with some benefits like the free companion cert and additional MQMs for spending that I think are worth the fee if you plan to use these benefits.
The standard sign up bonuses are 10K miles for the Gold card and 15K miles (5K of that are MQMs) for the Plat card, but check around on the Delta and Amex forums on Flyertalk to see if there's currently a better offer.
