Fly Frontier? Insane? Stupid?
I'm looking at airfares for DTW to ABQ during Christmas week, and Frontier is kicking everyone's butt for the itinerary that I need (Frontier $497 R/T vs $526+ on NWA with US Airways, taxes included). The attraction of Frontier is that there are no tiny commuter planes for this itinerary (we do wildlife photography & carry-on size is an issue with small planes). Am I nuts for considering Frontier given that they are bankrupt?
We've done this trip before with TWA (looong time ago), and recently with AA (and got trapped in Chicago on return due to weather). We normally fly NWA & have never had problems with them, but the desired itinerary & 100% NWA flight is very expensive.
I'm also wondering if it would be good to wait & see what the drop in oil prices may do for all of this.
TIA for your thoughts & wisdom!

You're only talking about a $30 difference in airfare (although I realize your concerns on the plane size)so if it's that big of a worry, book the NWA.
We flew Frontier in August and I have tickets for my mother to come down for two weeks over Thanksgiving on Frontier. May be a risk, but then I'm hoping that if they do "close the doors" they'll wait to see how they do over the holiday travel season.

I did find that if I wanted to stay on big planes & stay on NWA, it would cost $688 R/T.
We do have an unused NWA ticket, so we are going to suck it up & go with that. At least we know our carryons will (hopefully) fit w/o doing battle with the crew...

"But if the OP has expensive photo equipment, he/she may not want to gate check them."
Exactly! Once we watched in horror as one of our camera backpacks (legal carry-on size, but not for a prop plane) sit ignored on the tarmac before it was literally thrown onto a luggage cart & then buried with other luggage. Fortunately the bag did it's job & nothing got killed.
