Did I get demoted by United?

When I became a one million miler with United, I didn't have to qualify for a Premier Executive status. I am just a Premier Gold now, one of the benefits of being a Premier Executive is the shorter lines, is that benefit gone?

I am disappointed, I only travel twice-three times per year now.

Premier Gold is the new name for what used to be Premier Executive (the 50k annual EQM level). Some benefits are the same, but some things have changed (e.g., bonus redeemable miles).

Thank you ms_go for the Million mile link.

I really like going to the 1K/Premier Executive line at the airport and I hope that benefit was not taken away.

I rarely use the check-in line at domestic airports, so I'm not sure what's the norm now at most--and whether some still have check-in areas differentiated by level of status. At my home airport, ORD, there is now just one "Elite Access" check-in area that serves premium cabins and all elite levels (except Global Services and int'l first, which have a separate area). Within that, there is one roped-off lane for 1Ks, which in my limited experience wasn't very fast.

Your status does still include Star Alliance Gold benefits--which does allow use of the premium check-in lines on other Star Alliance carriers and, I agree, that can be a big time saver.

I am also a MMer...!

You also get 3 bags at 70 lbs each, when flying on United. There are some Star Alliance partners that also allow 3, but not all of them. Read the fine print, in other words.

I like access to star gold lounges when flying internationally. That is still available with your new lifetime level.

You do know you can 'give' your spouse the same star gold level for life, right? Those new cards and credentials for the spouse will (should) be appearing in late March, early April. In the meantime, my husband got the wrong card (silver) but UA reps tell me that will be fixed end of 1st qtr. Hope so!!!

There are a lot of discussions in the United forum of flyertalk.com discussing some of the teething pains of the United-Continental merger (including the systems integration last weekend). You'll probably get some great information about what you should be entitled to under the new system.

I experienced some of those teething pains first hand when I spent 45 minutes on the phone with a UA rep a few days ago, trying to find award seats for a last minute trip from Australia to the US.

She was really stuggling with the new system and never did find anything.

I later logged on to UA's website and was able to book the award seats myself, which I don't think was an option prior to the merger (?) I found what I needed, including a few segments in business class, but it took a lot of searching and the better part of a day. Just as I was getting ready to book, the flights would disappear.

I sure hope the flights are there when I travel next week!

I have not yet booked anything on the new site, but I've been searching several flights that I plan to take within the next 6-8 months. Melnq8, I do agree that the options for FF tickets are much better with the new system, but there are things I'll have to get used to that I don't particularly care for right now. We're all learning...

Good luck that your flights are there next week!!

BTW, I'm planning SYD in late July for about 2 weeks!
