delta miles to europe -upgrades

Hi has anyone used their delta miles to upgrade from coach seats? Were the seats outrageously priced? How do you know which class to look for upgradeable seats? Thanks

Y, B, or M. Check if there's a discounted I business fare which may only be a few hundred more than the M economy fare.

Given that you have enough miles to do an upgrade.....

Long before you post here, you should go to the Delta web site and figure it out, so someone else doesn't have to on your behalf.

Beyond that, Delta charges different amounts of miles depending on if they are flying, or if one of their partners are flying. Joe Bob says check it out.

Nobody's holding a gun to anyone's head to look up info for others here.

Used miles last year. Here's a hint, the A Fare Sale business class seats would have been CHEAPER had I met the requirements.

Basically you have to buy a full fare ticket (or close) and even then there is NO guarantee (If DL hadn't screwed up my flight I don't think I woul have made the upgrade LOL! The nice agent who fixed the ticket also somehow got the upgrade through)

For summer travel booked at least 50 days in advance you can get business class seats for the low $2,000 range.

Hey Rasta,
I can look up the info and have. Duh.
I was wondering if anyone else has done this and if the coach tickets in order for the upgrade were ridiculously priced or not...Don't answer if you don't have the answer.
Everyone else:
Thanks!

girlonthego,

I always use my skymiles to up-grade here in the States and flights to Europe. It seems I pay a few hundred dollars more for the up-gradeable seats. It is still worth it to me.

Good Luck, Joan

I guess my point wasn't very clear.

Carrybean, if you want to do someone else's work, that's fine with me.

I just think that before a person posts, they should work from some base of knowledge.

girlonthego, if you've done the work, say so in your first post and be more specific as to what you want. It helps others be more helpful to you.

For an upcoming trip, I've hit a dead-end or two, and then I ask for help, but not before. Tres simple.

And if you don't want to, don't.

You won't find a list of upgradeable fare classes on delta.com. The only way to find out is by calling (or asking here).

Upgrading with miles is only applicable on Delta, not partner, operated flights. At one point, you could upgrade DL coded/AF operated flights but that's no longer possible. And it was the same amount of mileage in either case.

Thanks all for the feedback. I see that Delta is starting flights to Vienna from Atlanta and that would be our destination next summer.
I will look into it when I can actually buy the tickets in early July.
Thanks again.

Is it true that you don't have to "pay" for the upgrade (with miles) until you actually take the flight?

Also, is there any way you might be shunted back into coach? If you get a confirmed upgrade is it pretty much a done deal? (I've never done this before and I need to get it right. If there's any chance of a screw up, I'll just pony up and buy Biz Class.)

TIA. I really value the expertise here. Seems you folks know more than some of the DL skymiles agents I've spoken with lately! ;-)

Miles don't get deducted until you fly.

I have not heard of getting "shunted" back to coach, but just because you buy and upgradeable fare does not mean you are going to get an upgrade. (Chances are probably slim in truth)

Thanks. I have asked and been told that there ARE in fact a number of upgradeable seats available on the flights I am looking at. I will buy over the phone to be sure.
