DAL old FF miles

Just received an e-mail notice that my no expiration FF miles will be "rolled-over" into my Sky miles in January and all will expire if not used before 12/07.

Is that what your e-mail said? I don't think that's exactly the way it's supposed to work. According to Delta's website, any of the pre-1995 (old program, no-expiration) miles that aren't used by the end of 2006 will be rolled over into the regular account in Jan. 2007 and be subject to current program rules (e.g., they'll expire after three years of no activity). Did they tell you something different?

Are they doing this to "encourage" you to take out a Sky Mile or Delta airline credit card which would then show activity?

Delta has switched from its old FF miles to Skymiles for 10 years now. It's been more than long enough for people to use up their old FF miles by now.

rk,
I agree, but even playing the 330 day advance res game, we could never seem to get "2" first upgrade seats using miles on the same flight.
KT,
Yes, as my accounts have been dormant for many years.

Oh I wish that were true. I still have about 3500 or those "old" miles sitting there and I have been collecting and cashing in miles continuously for the last 10 years.

They seem not to be using those miles first. In fact, I cannot figure out how they decide whether to take old or new miles when an award is sought...

Glad to hear they will be folded into the current program. Sitting on that last line they are nothing more than annoying.

I also have a very small pre-1995 'old ff mile' balance (I don't even know what the balance is) so this doesn't affect me. But I gather that there are those with tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of these 'old' miles which can be used by Medallion members to redeem awards at the lower 'old' award chart redemption levels.

The problem I see is that Delta more or less promised its members that their old miles would never expire and that they could continue to redeem them (well at least Medallions could) at the old award chart levels. They really shouldn't have made that promise. Does anyone know of any other ff program which has maintained 2 award charts for 10 years?

NFZ and Patty - Thanks for reminding me about the differneces in the FF miles and Skymiles. I thought I had some FF miles, but I somehow managed to spend it. But I really don't know the details.

Patty is right that Delta was foolish to make all those promises. Well, that had been their way of business for many years - that's how they get the highest paid pilots in the country, among other ills. They thought they could succeed by "being nice".

Oh well, I flew through SLC this past weekend, and was said to see that DL's operation is diminishing even there, as more and more flights were flown by Skywest and ASA, and DL has just sold ASA. They already had closed the DFW hub, and is cutting flights in CVG - and they did still own Comair which is huge there.

Soon, there would be nothing but ATL...
