Continental made me Silver Elite
It took three months but I finally got my miles flying from Miami to Barcelona on Swiss International Airlines. I then got a letter from Continental that said I made Silver Elite. In July, I flew from West Palm Beach to San Francisco and 24 hours before departure I got an E-mail saying I was upgraded to First; a first on Continental from Houston to San Francisco.
The benefits have been great. No baggage fees. Great meal in First Class and healthy. Fruit, veggies and wine. Yes, the wine.
Last week I flew from San Francisco to Vancouver on United and I checked at the gate to see if I was getting miles with Continental. I was given a new boarding pass with First section boarding in economy so I had no problem putting away my luggage in the overhead bins. Overhead bins became a zoo later in the boarding.
I stayed at the new Hostel near Whistler (Olympic Village) that has a flat screen television in the laundry room and I was able to grill salmon each night. Whistler restaurants are not cheap.
I'm probably the only person flying First Class and staying at hostels, but as they say on "The View," "so what!"

My hostel in Madrid was right downtown in the center of everything. 15 Euros a night and it included breakfast and internet. I shared a room with a couple from Atlanta and a guy from Barcelona taking a class at the University. I treated myself to a four star hotel in Frankfurt by the train station and they wanted 12.50 Euros a day for Internet and 15 Euros for breakfast. I went to the train station and purchased a sandwich for breakfast and went to Starbucks to surf the Internet.

On my return flight from San Diego to West Palm Beach I was upgraded to First from San Diego to Houston. I'm actually glad I didn't get upgraded from Houston to West Palm Beach since I had to pick up a rental car and drive.
I love it when Saturday Night Live does "The View."
