Connection Time in Rome - Is 70 Minutes Acceptable?

Mrs. Peabody amd I have Alitalia vouchers for a trip to italy. We want to get to Naples from JFK, which means a change at FCO. Alitalia is offering a connection with an arrival in Rome at 12:05 and takeoff at 13:15. Our ultimate destination is Sorrento.

Does anyone have actual experience with such a tight connection in Rome? Will checked bags make it? Will we? Any help would be appreciated. I think I will also post this on the Europe board to get a full audience.

Thanks!

AJ.

Several years ago I had a relatively tight connection in Rome, and we missed our connecting flight on Alitalia. I was wary of the connection when we purchased the ticket... but American Airlines assured me that the connection was legal and I would have no problems making the flight. We landed on time, but by the time we made it to the Alitalia desk they had already given away our seats, claiming that we were late. This was about 5 years ago, and things can certainly have changed over the years... but just wanted to let you know about my experience.

Not cool! Time to revise itinerary and ditch this plan.

Have revised route: Flying to Rome, will tour there, then train (as QV did) to Sorrento. Return By air not a problem. Insuring trip not my ususal tactic but it sounds wise this time.

How far from center is Shereton Roma? Easy trip into center if not there?

Alitalia is bankrupt? Welcome back to 2006!!! The current Alitalia, as partially owned by AF/KLM has been in operation since 2009.
