Connecting Flight in Paris

Hello All. I'm attempting to book a flight from Los Angeles to Rome. The flight that I'm currently interested in has a 2-hour stop/change planes in Paris/CDG. The airline is Air France, so I don't think I would need to change terminals. The flight is from Los Angeles to Paris and then from Paris to Rome. I suspect that once I land in Paris, I'll need to clear customs. The return flight from Rome to Los Angeles also has a stopover in Paris/CDG. Since Italy and France are part of the Schengen country agreement, would I need to clear customs in Paris coming from Rome? The issue is whether 2 hours is enough time to make it from one flight to the other, assuming I need to clear customs. Thank you,

You seem be confusing Customs (luggage/merchandise/etc) with Immigration (passport/border control)

You will go through Immigration at CDG since it is your first entry into the Schengen zone. You won't see your luggage until you get to Rome, where you will go through Customs.

On the return flight they will check your passport in Rome and possibly when boarding the flight at CDG, but there is no Customs when leaving Schengen.

AFAIK AF uses 3 different terminals - 2E, 2F and 2G. I haven't looked up which those various flights use. (Are all flights on AF metal or are they code shares with another operating airline? )

You will have to go through passport control and possibly security. You could likely have to go from 2E to 2F, at least, which is walkable. Two hrs should be fine.
