China Air??

This airline seems to have the least expensive fares from SFO to BKK in Dec/Jan.

Can anyone share their experiences positive or negative with this airline?

Thanks,

Margy

Are you asking about China Airlines or Air China?

China Airlines safety record is not very good.

Air China is fine.

They haven't had a crash in several years. They may have turned the corner, or you may think that they are due for another.

They do fly mostly young planes these days - their A340s and B747s for N. American routes are all very new, which may help.

I agree with you to a certain degree,

however....

Many of the crashes in the 90's were pilot errors, not necessarily equipment problem. The pilots are being trained in Australia and US since the new managment steped in.

Majority of the Taiwanese in the late 90's and to some degree till now refuse(d) to fly their national flag carrier.

There has been a corporate shake up by the government, yet after the 2002 crash, the investigation discovered an amateur fix at best, on the cargo door.

There were no major accidents (with fatalities) since, so you may be correct.

I agree with you, AAFF. The one crash that can directly attributed to age is the 742 from TPE-HKG that disintegrated mid-flight. That aircraft was a last minute substitution however.

All others involve relatively new planes. The 744 that dunk into Victoria Harbor was just a few weeks old.
