Cheapest time of day to book on CO?

I'm booking tix for EWR-LAX SFO-EWR for late June early July and prices are fluctuating by the hour it seems.

Is there a particular time of day when the prices are lowest or is this completely random? I noticed yesterday prices went down by $75 or so in the evening.

Also do you have an opinion about what is reasonable or realistic to be paying for these tix? I'm seeing prices that vary from about $438-$600+ range for these specific dates. Depart 6/24 return 7/8.

Trying to avoid overpaying if possible. TIA Trish

Trish - Some people say that very early Tues or Wed mornings are best, but in my own experience it's pretty random. In march within a 24 hour period I found prices RT from IAH - PHL varied between $198 - 310 (and this was not advanced purchase). I don't think $400+ range for height of summer is bad. Have you tried kayak to make comparisons?

dfr4848, thanks for the feedback. I did get a sense that the fluctuations are pretty random. I will definitely check Kayak to see if CO's fares are competitive.

Trish - just a follow up observation. Our daughter is visiting a friend in Sweden this summer (Aug). I've been tracking fares from IAH - ARN for several weeks on kayak at different times of the day/night. They've been fluctuating from $900 - 1100, but CO has consistently been the lowest.

I can't wait until I retire so I can check prices every second of every minute of each day!

Thanks dfr4848, I'm finding that CO's prices are competitive, and since I'm not willing to travel at off hours I probably will just have to bite the bullett and buy them.

wally, I'm not retired, just trying not to overpay if I don't have to. Airfares are such a game for the Airlines...not much we can do but play along.
