Cathay Pacific Bus. Class out of Toronto

Hi,
Wondering if any of you have flown Business Class recently on Cathay Pacific from Toronto to Hong Kong on their 777? The seats are listed as recliners, comfortable? Can you sleep? I have flown on their 747 and it was wonderful. Don't know much about the 777 and seatguru wasn't much help. Thanks.

They are completely horizontal flat-beds in a herringbone layout. Reports say they're great for sleeping, feels narrow when sitting up trying to read a newspaper, and almost impossible to communicate with a seatmate.

Its just as RKKWAN says great for sleeping although very narrow, sitting up is claustraphobic and IMPOSSIBLE to talk to travel mate unless you stand up (assuming they honour your seat request)I wasn't over impresed we flew London -HK -Syd return.
I would say though that the service was good and on some sectors (especially out of HK both ways) excellent.
I got a great deal becuase i booked early, however if there price is on a par with SQ then i would book that for sure

Thanks. I called Cathay Pacific today to find out when I can get seat assignments - 6 months out I'm told. They said they have no idea now what aircraft will be on that route, mabye a 777-300 or maybe a 777-300ER, mabye even a 747 - so much for that. Well, we aren't traveling until April 2009, so I will note on my calendar to call them in October. I used AA miles, so cost wasn't a factor and Singapore Airlines isn't on the list. I know they are wonderful.

It will never be a non-ER 777-300. And very low chance it will be a 747-400. Even if it's a 744, most if not all will have the new herringbone flat-beds by then anyways.

My LAX-HKG flight nearly 3 weeks ago had a last minute sub to an aircraft with the new herringbone flat beds. Our original seat assignments were 83H/K in the old configuration upstairs and our new seat assignments were 83K/84K one in front of the other upstairs. I checked to see if any center seat pairs were available downstairs as I thought it might be better for two traveling together but none were available. We were only able to communicate if sitting straight up and looking over the partition or with one of us sitting on the ottoman though that isn't really comfortable for long periods of time. It was wonderful for sleeping and made me wish we were on a night rather than day flight. The duvets are very nice but they need better (softer) pillows instead of the rock hard thing that made my head hurt Good size screen, great if you like privacy, difficult to read a newspaper and somewhat confining when not sleeping but not as bad as I'd imagined and I got used to it. Overall, I have to say that the sleeping comfort won me over even though I wasn't looking forward to new seats.

Thanks, Patty, appreciate the update and info. Maybe I will bring my "neck pillow" and that will be more comfortable to put my head on.
