Booking tickets to Naples - Need Help

We are traveling to Capri and Positano early May from Boston.

I have been watching the flights for quite some time, and have found one on Swiss Intl that is $1330 per person.

The flight is $1085 per person on airfare.com, but I am afraid to book through them. I have seen postings of "horror stories" although no one will say exactly what the horror was. My husband thinks it is crazy to waste $500.

Some poster suggested we book to Rome. Our options there - $1975 - are Delta/Alitalia. We flew Alitalia last year when we went to Rome, and it was OK, although the flight from Boston was strange - no Alitalia desk, no people from Alitalia, and the flight was about 2 hrs late with no communication.

I have heard horror stories about Alitalia -- what with their strikes and all. Also, how would we then get from Rome to Capri, our first stop on our trip?

I am getting antsy about booking. I know now prices most likely will not come down, and I just want to get this done, I just don't know our best option. I do know we do NOT want to connect multiple times. One connection is more than enough, and I have heard Zurich is a pretty OK airport to connect through.

Any help would be much appreicated.

You worry way too much. Book your tickets through airfare.com, save yourself some pennies, use the pennies for a better hotel and have a great trip.

Maybe, but I want this to be a relaxing trip, not a nightmare. When people say they've had nightmares with a company I plan to use, I want to know what.

If flights are delayed or cancelled, and we purchase through Airfare.com, would airfare notify us or the airline?

I'm assuming once I book I would just confirm with the airline direct and learn of any changes through them. Is that correct?

Yes, but then that adds another stop to our trip. We were trying to keep this as simple as possible.

If we get stuck somewhere due to a late/cancelled connection I'd rather it be in Europe than NYC!

What are your dates? I can see prices for May under $1000 via Paris or Rome.

Looks like my best choices at this point are still Swiss Intl through airfare.com at $$2,158.88 total for the 2 of us, or $2,350 on Alitalia through Alitalia total.
