BOAC/British Airways?

Is BOAC the old name for British Airways or are these two different airlines? What did BOAC stand for? Thanks.

Boy, is that a name from the past.

BOAC were the initials for British Overseas Air Carrier. Or as sometimes referred to in the industry Better On A Camel.

So yes, British Airways.

Or it might be British Overseas Airways Corporation - one or the other, but now British Airways!

BOAC became british airways with the amalgamation of BOAC and BEA in I think 1973, wow, 30 years ago!
Although people joke about 'better on a Camel' I remember as a very young kid flying on them and they certainly were a Top carrier that could shame most current carriers, the seating, food, service (altghough I was very young) I still remember, and the Captain signing your log book, Comet 4's, VC10s and 707's, they stopped shortly after getting their first 747's

Oh I also remember they served tea in 'Silver Tea pots' and you got 'tucked in' with your blanket and Pillow, and us kids got 'Hot Chocolate' before going 'to bed'.

My first recollection of BOAC was the Beatles way back when:

Flew in from Miami Beach BOAC
Didn't get to bed last night...
