Best Time to buy for March 2008

Hi,
I found a decent airfare for March 2008 for the caribbean - I've checked on farecompare and it's at it's lowest point so far - but it's six months away. I've also called the airline and it's $50pp more then their tourbasing fare - experts please weigh in - thanks!

My thought has always been if I find an airfare that I'm happy with I buy it. I feel the price may go done slightly but more likely the increase could significant. Plus once I have my tickets nothing to worry about but which beach to snorkle first!

Usually, I purchase plane tickets about 3.5 to 4 months before traveling. When I reach the four month mark, that's when I start really looking. About two to three weeks later, I buy.

It might work for you.

Thanks for your replies. I usually wait for 4 months or so prior but in this case there was only 1 flight on each date that we wanted (Saturday and nonstop). The airlines have plenty of availability but only open certain fare classes depending on dates - that's what made it so confusing. Since this rate was $50 less then the airlines package price and over $200 than the other airlines - I thought it was a decent price - it was $135 higher pp last week. Farecompare showed it as lowest rate for that date so far but it's pretty far from now. Thanks again for your help!

What other things do you expect to be cheaper in a few months than they are now (aside from grapefruit and turkeys?)
