Any of you experts interested in checking this out?
I'm about to give up finding a cheaper fare, but I know they are out there.
Departing: 1st week in May from:
DFW (or IAH) to CAI
CAI to IST
IST to BUH
PRG to DFW (or IAH) (around 28 May)
I have found an itinerary for $3131.72 for 2. It involves:
Lufthansa #439
Egyptair #737
TAROM Romanian #262
Lufthansa #3267
Can I find cheaper/better connections? Any advice appreciated.

No, I'm stopping each place for at least 3 nights.
It's a good fare?
I'm amazed. I was thinking there would be some way to fly to London and find some great fare to Cairo on a low-cost European line etc., but it's really hard to get between Cairo and Istanbul for some reason.
Thanks for the comments. One more question. We usually fly AA (based in Dallas, etc) and don't know anything about Lufthansa. One reason we fly AA is because we can book our seats online ahead of time. Can I do that on Lufthansa?

Actually, flights from Europe to Cairo seem to tend toward the expensive end. Most of the budget/charter airlines fly to the Egyptian beaches, not to Cairo.
So, yes, I think you have found a pretty good deal.

We've flown LH 8 times in the last 3 years and think they're fine (in coach). No more room than others, but good service, quite decent food and snacks (and if you like, free before, during and after dinner drinks), very efficient staff. In our experience, you can not pick seats ahead of time online - the only thing we really didn't like about them.

The only investigation I'd make would be the benefit (if any) of putting together an itinerary using the Oneworld "Visit Europe" program which allows purchase of intra-Europe tickets for fixed prices depending on distances traveled. Unlike similar programs offered by Star Alliance and Skyteam, the Oneworld "Europe" program includes the Middle East, so your travel to Cairo might be more economical if you combine it with transatlantic travel on AA or one of its Oneworld partners. Since Oneworld now has members with Middle East and Eastern Europe hubs (Royal Jordanian and Malev Hungarian) you might find the Visit Europe program could lower your overall cost. Mind, you need to include connecting flights, so going from CAI to IST to OTP (BUH) might mean a routing like CAI-AMM-IST-BUD-OTP, which is probably more expensive in the plan than just going CAI-IST-OTP. But worth checking out.

I flew Lufthansa from Frankfurt to Houston several years ago. I had just gotten a FF # for their airline and when I asked at the gate whether they had my new number--they responded that they did indeed have it, and WOULD MY HUSBAND AND I LIKE TO HAVE SEATS IN BUSINESS. Gotta love it!
