airfare to Cancun march/06

We are planning a trip to Cancun 3/26/06..They are just starting to sell tickets for this time now and the best fare right now seems to be 462.00 on Spirit..Would it be advisable to wait and see if a lower fare comes through or buy tickets now since its "spring break" month? thanks for any adice..

Without knowing where you are flying FROM, it is difficult to offer an opinion. From where I am in the upper Midwest, I would lock in on a fare like that, if it met my needs. Spring Break is a high demand period for Cancun with full planes. In general, I wouldn't expect fares for that destination at that time to do anything but rise.

Chicago is likely to be a very good place to fly from because it is such a competitive market. Still, depending on when you mean in April, the fare that you saw could have been after Spring Break. Your date is in the peak of it. Holding out in hopes of maybe saving $87/ticket could just as easily end up costing you $100 -- but it's anyone's guess, too. You may have some time to wait without a lot of worry, if you so choose. What I tell people about Spring Break is that it is best to have your tickets purchased by November. Those who wait into December or later are playing a game that frequently produces nothing but higher costs. Hotel availabilities can become more limited and costly at times, too.

Have you checked on charter flights thru Apple or Funjet? You also might look at sunship1. I can't give a personal rec., however, they are newly flying out of Rockford. The website also lists Chicago.
