AA connecting in Brussels

Has anyone had experience with Brussels Airlines? We're flying AA; SFO-JFK-Brussels-Rome. The last leg (Brussels-Rome) is with Brussels airlines and I'm not sure if baggage will be automatically transfered or will have to be collected and re-checked.
Thanks for the help.

In your case the luggage will be checked through. You will still need to go through passport control in Brussels and through security. Customs will be done in Rome.

I did exactly this trip a couple of years ago, except that my last leg was Brussels - Budapest. It went fine. They transferred the luggage automatically.
