A big thank you to US AIR !
Just wanted to share a "nice" airline story. On January 9th, my grandfather was flying from Las Vegas to Pittsburgh. He is 93 years old and requires wheel-chair assistance.

US Air was wonderful on many fronts. First, I was allowed to escort my Grandfather to the gate. I had to have valid id at the check-in counter as well as to pass through security (I had a US AIRWAYS pass). But the nicest gesture by far was when we arrived at the gate.

I went to speak with the gate agent to let him know that my grandfather would need assistance entering the plane - explaining how he was 93. I then went to sit with my grandfather. A few minutes later, the gate agent approached us, asked for his boarding pass and came back shortly. He had upgraded Pap pap to 1st class!

Wow! How classy. This is probably the last time he will be able to fly and this was such a nice gesture. Just wanted to share a "good" airline story.

On a side note - I was not able to get the gate agents name - I couldn't read his name tag fully. Perrero or something like that. Should I still write a thank you to US Air?

Cheers,

VAnessa

Thanks for posting this! THe rest of the news and most of the rest of this website can be so nasty.

Yes, by all means, write USAir. If you give specific details of day and flight, they will know who was on duty that day. They are grateful, too, for good news, esp. in these tough times -- and they need to know that passengers note it, spread the word, and notice which airline was involved. You might well mention that you posted this here, for the same reason.

Congrats to your grandfather, too, for being so game as to cope with traveling at his age!

Thanks for sharing Vanessa. Yes, I would write a thank you note in the manner that jj suggested. I always try to write, as well, when someone goes out of their way for me. It at least lets the "higher ups" know that they are doing a great job.

Glad everything went so well for you and your grandfather.
