Plane emergency landing

There is a plane just about to make an emergency landing in LA. On CNN right now.

It's front landing wheels are pointed sideways.

On CNN right now almost ready to land.

Oh dear God, this strikes a major nerve with me. Circumstances were different, but I do have some idea of what those passengers are going through. My TV is now on, I am hoping and praying for the best. Thanks for the heads up.

I just started watching, but it looks like the plane is still in the air. I'll post back when they land.

OK, they are flying around over the ocean in order to burn as much fuel as possible before landing. As mentioned above, the wheels are at a 90 degree angle, exactly sideways. They will land in about 10 minutes.

It's a Jet Blue flight that left Burbank Airport a while ago and realized that it's landing gear wasn't working. They are trying to land at LAX. Haven't landed yet.

My TV station here in San Diego is talking to a AA pilot-he says the danger of this landing on a scale of 1-10 is about a 1 or 2. I sure hope he's right. I am definitely saying prayers for all those people.

I don't know whether to watch or turn the channel.

I have CNN on right now and they have a split screen w/one shot of the plane and the other showing all the emer. equipment on the runway.

SunnyD--I hope your husband is right. I can't imagine what those passengers are going through right now...I especially worry about any babies onboard who are not strapped in carseats.

seeksocean, I was about to go to the store before I saw this thread. I am now glued to the TV so I will get back with you immediately.

A word of encouragement--help is standing by, and that makes a huge difference. In my situation it was a fire that caused our emergency landing. I was so thankful that the firefighters were right there on the runway to put out the fire when we landed and to catch us when we came down the slides. It really does make a difference. Let's send out our positive Fodor's vibes to LA.

Since this is the only means of knowing what's going on, how long until attempted landing?
