A/A canceled 1000 flights today

to inspect the wiring again.....thousands of passengers stranded. Chaos in the airports.
Glad I was not traveling today.

I have posted a couple of replies in this thread on the US forum:

fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=1&tid=35122549

Most of the fleet is still grounded, and AA has already started canceling tomorrow's flight.

It's not an "inspection" issue anymore. From what I've read elsewhere, initial inspection shows the wiring does not satisfy an earlier FAA-issued airworthiness directive. So, it appears they need to actually fix the wiring; or unless FAA and AA agrees with a schedule to permit flying now and fixing the wiring later.

Right now, looking at flightaware.com, there are:

- 16 MD82s in flight, 6 of them AA96xx ferry flights to get the planes to a hub. Out of 223 in fleet.

- 9 MD83s in flight, 4 of them AA96xx ferry flights. Out of 83 in fleet.

So, 15 aircrafts in revenue flights out of 304 in fleet. That's up from 13 when I posted in the other thread a little earlier.

So pleased that we traveled home on Monday, otherwise I think we might still be at the mojito bar in the Miami airport. Sorry for all who are stranded.

Good post. I've been in back to back meetings in Dallas since Sunday with no time to follow this other than our CEO making an announcement that there will be issues for those of us flying out. I'm to fly home Thursday (on an AA MD80). I'm booking a fully refundable back up on SWA out of Love Field in case this is not resolved.

How is this affecting their international flights. The MD-80s are used to feed their hubs. Are flights from Dallas, Chicago and New York half empty? Might one get a row to themself?

JFK to London is $617 for today. BA is charging $1866.00. Good luck getting to JFK.

Not that anyone really cares, but I did book a refundable back up on SWA. After the conclusion of my meeting on Thursday, I headed to DAL instead of DFW. I went to the American counter to see if they would put me on the non stop to MCI (regional jet) and had no problems at all.
