Ephesus/Kusadasi day trip
Going to Ephesus for one day (part of cruise). Not into taking the cruise tours. Wondering if it's possible to hire a taxi to drive from site to site? Thanks! -- Michelle

There will be taxis at the port you can hire, but not what I would recommend. Ephesus is at least a 1/2 hour drive from the port. We were just there in 9/06. You will want to spend quite a bit of time (like at least a couple of hours) at the site. So, you leave the site and now you're trying to get a cab back? Along with the hundred other people there! Most people go by tour bus or tour.
When we went we did a tour with a company called Ekol Travel. Look at their website - www.ekoltravel.com and you will see their prices are very reasonable. We did their 5 hour tour which included the House of the Virgin Mary. They met us at the pier with a sign with our name on it. It was great. Fascinating port.

First, you'll probably get more responses if you put this on the Europe board. I guess Turkey is still listed on this board, but most of the posts/replys are on the other one.
We were at Ephesus just 2 months ago and saw lots of taxis at the bottom parking area. I think some people (ones not in groups) park and then start at the top entrance, walk thru, and then take a taxi back to the top. So, I think taxis are available to get you back to the port.
But, I think patandhank has a good point. Depending on how much time you have - if you want to see some of the other sites (House of the Virgin Mary, St. John's Basillica, etc), it might be best to arrange a tour rather than relying on taxis at each spot.
We were in Kusadasi for 2 days and had a car so it wasn't a big deal for us. We just did everything on our own.

Sorry - just re-read your post again and realized you were asking about hiring a taxi to take you to various sites...not just Ephesus.
I honestly don't know the answer to that, but I go back to my suggestion that it might be a better bet ($$$-wise) to try to arrange a private tour.
I take it that you are not going with the cruise tour........is that because of the price or that you don't want to be with a large crowd?

When I went to Ephesus from Kusadasi we just hired a taxi for the duration. Not expensive. He dropped us at the top entrance and waited at the bottom parking lot. No big deal. I didn't feel we needed a tour, just saw the site at our leisure and met the taxi when we were done. Since you pay them at the end they'll certainly wait for you, no need to hire a 2nd taxi.
