Zanzibar: Nungwi or Pongwe?
I've read great reviews on Nungwi and the northern tip being the best 'beach' location and then I read Pongwe is beautiful but also heard the south is not nearly as nice as the north. Can anyone help with the difference? Also, specifically I would like some input on two places: Ras Nungwi and Pongwe beach. Any input would be very helpful. Which is nicer hotel and beach and less resort-like?

Pongwe is the smaller on a beautiful strip of white beach. There is no a/c or pool; not much to do but enjoy the beach. Also the less expensive.
Pongwe isn't south, but on the east side of the island. However, since Ras Nungwi is on the northern tip, you can say Pongwe is south, but not the southern tip of ZNZ.
Ras Nungwi has about 40 rooms which are quite lovely, has a/c and a pool; more activities and more expensive.
They're both good choices.
