Zambezi Queen

Anyone been on this? If so -- did you book as part of a tour. How did you like it?

Looks terrible - appears to be a Bahamas style operation in the middle of pristine wilderness. Appears in really bad taste.

We tried to book it for early March but it was still in the shakedown period and wasn't operating while we were there. At that time it was too late to book the other houseboat (Ichobezi) as it was full. So we booked 3 nights near Kasane at the Garden Lodge, an 8 room river side hotel.

I was initially very disappointed as I really wanted to stay on the ZQ but once we were there I was very happy we were on land. We had a lovely time at the Garden Lodge and were on our own for the morning and afternoon game drives/boat cruises (our choice). For us that is far superior to being in a launch with 8 or more people.

We did see the ZQ at her dock and the Ichobezi next to her - the ZQ is very large and really stands out in the environment.

I think the ZQ is a very nice and comfortable way to travel the mighty Zambezi.
Impact onto the environment - not more than any lux camp/lodge along the river or delta.

I would opt for the 3 night cruise.

Happy travels!

The last I read, the Zambezi Queen was still not operational, so do your research before sending a deposit.

We spent two nights on the Ichobezi, which is a much smaller houseboat, accommodating a maximum of eight passengers. It was a fantastic experience. See bottom of page 29 of the following trip report for a detailed description and photos of the Ichobezi. It would be an excellent alternative if the Zambezi Queen is not available. Robin

I asked the same question on behalf of my mum some time ago, and she is now booked on the Ichobezi, with some time on land too given the time of year. Not really a direcct answer to your question....
