Yellow Fever- Tanzania & Rwanda
We are traveling to Rwanda and Tanzania in June and it is recommended that you have a Yellow Fever vaccination. Both my husband and I are over 70 years old. My husband's doctor has said he should not have any live vaccines because of infusions that he takes for Crohn's. My reading says the vaccine is not recommended for persons over 65. I know that we can get the exemption letter from our doctor but am wondering if anyone else has traveled without receiving the vaccine and had the exemption letter. We of course will be entering 2 different countries.

Neither Tanzania or Rwanda are yellow fever endemic countries, so you shouldn’t need the vaccine unless transiting through another country, eg Kenya, that is considered yellow fever endemic. Rather than trusting me or any other Fodors poster, follow up through official sources, such as your country’s state dept/foreign office travel advice or CDC and WHO. Below is a link for the US State Dept travel advice for Rwanda, and a CDC yellow fever map for Africa.
