Which would be better--June or July?

Planning a trip to Tanzania (Serengeti, Nogorgoro, possibly Gombe) for Summer 2007. In terms of weather, would we prefer June or July? Is the risk of extensive rain too great in June? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I did respond, but don't see my answer. If it doesn't appear, I'll try again tomorrow.

For that itinerary, June is better....for game viewing. I dont think rain would be in the equation for the northern circuit for june or july.

Hello,

I'd also recommend June -- in July the Migration starts heading up towards the Mara, and the timing is unpredictable so you can miss it if you're unlucky. I did the Northern Circuit in July and missed the migration (though we still had good game-viewing).

Cheers,
Julian

June - any rains should be over within the first few days of the month. And in June you're more likely to catch the migration in the Central and Western Serengeti (the latter, towards the end of the month)... but never any guarantees exactly where.

By July, the herds are likely to be more in the northern Serengeti and many already in the Mara.
