Aside from family stuff, I am:
1. Municipal finance lawyer (i.e tax-exempt bonds, big firm, etc.)
2. Mediator in District Court (totally unconnected to above; someday I'd like to work in Elder Mediation, a new field for resolution of family issues involving older persons.)
3. Volunteer ESL tutor

What a great thread - and so many lawyers!
I am in the clothing business down here right at the bottom of Africa - we design ranges and handle production problems for a large retailer - winter is our quiet time (right now) so I have time to write posts like this!

Hi Mohamed - I think I recall you are coming to SA? Tea taster - I love it - I adore Rooibos -especially the vanilla and blackcurrnat flavours - quite hard to find those - Rooibos of course is indigenous here - heard it called Red Bush and Rooi (Roy) Bosch, but we locals call it Rooibos (no ch sound)
Holotropic make a tea here called cherry blaze and it smells just like summer! We are having a week of Cape Storms so I am drinking a lot of Cheery Blaze - great post - love your alter ego!

I am a registered nurse...at this time I am a school nurse. Love my job, especially at the end of May each year. Before nursing, I was a Zookeeper for 11 1/2 years. Worked in the nursery and with the primates. The loves of my life, besides my husband, was an Orangutan named "Anak" and a female Gorilla named "Vanilla". Needless to say, this trip will be a dream come true...Safari which will end with 2 days of Gorilla Trekking. I can hardly wait until August.

Well after 20 years in software quality assurance, I am officially 'retired' from the hi-tech world. Last week Friday the 18th I left my last job.
For a total change of careers my wife and I will be starting a Maaco Auto Body & Paint shop. (no I am not advertising here.)
No I don't have previous experience in the field, but I will be going for a month of training & have already hired a shop manager with 20 years in the body & paint biz.
But after Honeymoon With My Brother I have a desire to chuck it all and to spend a year going around the world. but if all goes well in a few years the business will more or less run itself and I won't be there day to day. So who knows....

Congratulations Wayne and Mary Ellen!
I wish you all the best in your new business adventure!
I have no doubt that your Maaco Auto Body & Paint shop will have the most interesting library in the nation and for sure after reading some of your books your clients may have requests for winged and amphibious vehicles so they may partake in some of your adventures!
Enjoy, Den

I have a question. It seems that a lot of people referred to their own jobs as boring. I'm just curious -- are you really bored, or do you just think that the rest of us will think it sounds boring, and so you are simply saying it first? I'm truly curious about this.
I used to be a computer programmer, but have now shifted to more of a communication role, acting as a liaison between technicians and business people, to help them understand each other.

Cool to see how many lives this thread has had. I'm the Finance Director for a not for profit. I really enjoy where I work - it's nice to feel like what you do makes a difference; before I joined the not for profit arena, I spent 25 year in corporate America. I guess you could say this is my second career and I'm loving it.

Interesting question! I'm a corporate litigator, which sounds boring but is actually very interesting. I used to be an architect (a long time ago and for a very short time), which sounds interesting but was actually mind-numbingly boring.
If you hadn't asked the question, and I had posted an answer to this, I would have added the "boring" disclaimer to my confession to being a lawyer. Most lawyers are used to people complaining about how many lawyers there are, so we're a defensive bunch.
