What denominations of $ can you get out from Egypt ATM?
Hi,
Just wondering what denominations of currency pop out at the atms (Aussies ATM's have $20 or $50).
Also, what is the most you can get out in one transaction? Some of the banks that give you a travelling debit card charge $3.30 PER transaction then I think it is 2% of the total amount withdrawn if it is in an unusual currency.
Thanks.

Interesting that Aussie ATMs dispense USD! That's unusual but good to know for my return visit down under
Or is that AUD$20s & $50s and not USD?
However, ATMs in Egypt, you'll get Egyptian Pounds.
As to fees assessed by banks issuing their ATM/debit cards... that's individual to the financial institution. If that's the case with your bank, it's not a good idea go to "the hole in the wall" daily... withdraw what you feel you'll need for entire visit or half the time.
Why I never bothered with ATMs in Egypt... just went to the hotel's Currency Exchange and got what I needed of local notes and thus no fees. Besides, the rates of exchange is basically the same whether ATMs or Currency Exchanges... if any difference, it's too small to notice and sure less than your home bank would charge for ATM use.

Aussie ATM's spit out Aussie dollars!!
The card I am talking about doesn't give you US dollars in Australia. It is a card you can put your Aussie dollars into - like a debit card and it will give you the currency of the country you are in. It will however, charge you differently if you get out US dollars in USA, Euros in Europe, pounds sterling etc as opposed Egyptian dollars or other unusual currencies.

Thanks for clarifying - Aussie cards have AUD not USD.
My guess only, if you have a said amount of AUD on your card, you can withdraw up to that amount in a foreign ATM to get that local currency. Any fees would be those assessed by your home bank card issuer.
But still recommend you find out direct from your financial institution exactly how the card works.

Perhaps my question was phrased wrong. I want to know how much you can get out of the ATM in one transaction. i.e. it won't be able to spit out a HUGE wad of currency at once. Or what denominations. Obviously if I can get my money in 100 pounds, it will be better than 10 pounds

I don't want to know how much MY bank will let me take. I want to know how much the machine physically will let you.
In Australia, I think you can get 500 at a time... any more and the hole isn't wide enough to spit more money out!!!

Miss Green, the amount you can withdraw may vary by country, city, company which owns the particular ATM, and pretty much any other criterion the operating company wishes to use. It is very difficult to give any authoritative answer other than a general rule of thumb.

HI Miss Green
Whatever your daily limit is for your AUS card you should be able to get out of the machine. I used my UK Bank card and as long as you stay within your daily limit of withdrawal then you can use it no problem at all. Try to stay just under your daily limit because the exchange rate can fluctuate and if you try to take more than your daily limit you might find a block gets put on your card temporarily because your bank is trying to avoid fraudulent use of your card.
Normally you get a mix of notes but mostly big notes like 200LE and 100LE so you have to then try the challenge of getting them broken down. Just pop into a bank in the day time and they will give you smaller notes no problem.

I don't recall exact denominations either (my DH was the one who used the ATM card), but I think scotsgirl is about right - the denominations were rather large. There might have been some 50 LE notes, but I don't think there was anything less.
