Westin Capetown?

I am getting a very decent deal on this around $200 a night including breakfast. Has anyone stayed here? We are two couples, and this is our first trip to South Africa. Before this we will have spent 3 nights in the wine country atand we will have two nights in Capetown. We were willing to spend up to $350. But, of course, the lower price is very appealing. However, I don't want to have our last nights on the trip to be a let down. Thoughts?

The other places I had looked into were the Victoria and Alfred. It seems a bit dated, but I love the location. Ideally, we would have loved My One and Only or Cape Grace or a boutique hotel. However, most of those seemed to be over $650 a night.

Thanks so much for your input. However, our friends are quite keen on staying right at the waterfront.

I'm looking into Victoria and Alfred and Dock House. Any thoughts

We like the Commodore. It's not "on" the waterfront like the V&A, but almost.

I'm currently at the V&A Hotel for 5 nights and everything has been perfect. I secured a great rate for a Mountain Jr. Suite with the most perfect post card view of table mountain. My room is not at all outdated and appears to be a fairly recent updates in the past few years. The breakfast (included in my rate) is nice and the staff has also been excellent. I'd highly recommend over the Commodore or Portswood as you won't get the views and even easier access to the restaurants and shops, although these two hotels are only about a 5 minute walk to the waterfront.

Just adding, my husband and his work team were in South Africa in May. They spent the last 2 nights at the Commodore and one of the most frequent comments from the group was about the views from their hotel rooms. Obviously, not every room will have a great view, but this group was very happy with the hotel, the location, and the views.

Now, my husband and I will probably be in Cape Town again within the next few months, but we plan on staying at the Cape Grace. Were there many years ago and are looking forward to going back.

nycjv, thank you so much. I had read that the V & A had been renovated a few years ago. Any tips you can offer would be great!

Grcxx3, thanks, I will look into the others also. I wish there was availability at Cape Grace. It is fully booked on our dates.

misha2 - we stayed at the Cape Grace back in 2003 and loved it. But that was back in the days when all 4 of us could be in 1 room. By the time we went back to Cape Town in 2007, we definitely needed 2 rooms, so the Commodore was perfect! We also rented an apt just behind the Cape Grace for several nights and that was fabulous.

But.....as new empty nesters...I'm thinking the Cape Grace is back in the picture!!!

I went ahead and booked the V &A. Maybe Cape Grace or some of the other great suggestions will be in our future.
