Visa question

I read the visa application for Tanzania and I noticed at the bottom they ask for proof of money to support you while you're there. My tour is going to be completely paid for - including meals - and I also bought travel insurance to cover any medical. I only need funds for any souvenirs or drinks I buy. What exactly are they looking for on that question? Do they want to see a print-out of your bank statement??

probably that....but, you can also say that you will purchase the stuff using a credit card?

If in doubt, check with your Travel agent......

Carrie, we just get the visa at the airport in Arusha (the line there is usually faster than the other line for the people who already have visas ... go figure). We've never been asked to show a return ticket or asked how much money we have.

My guess is they have this provision on the visa app so they can screen possible refugees who want to stay in Tanzania (without bringing in enough money) and if you are a tourist with a round trip ticket you will not have any problems at all.

My tour operator African Adventure Company told me to put $100 in that space, so I did...waiting to see how that works out!

Unless you're backpacking and hanging around the country with no idea where or what you'll be doing from day-to-day, most countries want to know how you'll support yourself... whether, should there be an incident, the country will be responsible for your care - boarding, medical, hospital, etc. So the question is not unusual.

However, if you're going on a tour, which has been prepaid, there is no reason to enter anything on the form in answer to this question.
