Tydon Safari Camp feedback
We are planning a safari in late March/early Apri and Tydon Safari Camp which is adjacent to Sabi Sands is one of our options. Does anyone have any feedback about Tydon Safari Camp? We are looking for a mid-priced safary and don't need luxury accommodations but do want highest quality game viewing and guides. Thank you

Tydon is a different experience. It’s not on the private reserves, just outside. You do game drives in Kruger Park (where everyone can go) and in Sabi Sand private game reserve on Umkumbe lodge’s small traversing. It’s tented and a good experience and I recommend it often. I wouldn’t really consider it mid priced, more on the affordable range.
There are lots of affordable lodges in the greater Kruger ecosystem that are unfenced to the 2.2 million hectare reserve. Africa on Foot, Shindzela, Umlani (check website for special), Mohlabetsi (another special), nThambo, Pungwe, Umkumbe are some favorites. In the mid range are Arathusa, Inyati, Idube, Motswari, Senalala, Kambaku, Nottens, Simbavati, Bateleur Main, Nottens, many more. There’s something for everyone’s taste and travel style.
Game viewing at the unfenced reserves is excellent. Traversing area size, permanent rivers through that area make some difference depending on time of year you visit. I like a lodge with a waterhole in camp so animals stop by between game drives.
I like to combine a private lodge with a self drive in Kruger Park. It stretches my budget and I get more time seeing wildlife in their home. If you have time, it’s great fun! Just like visiting Yellowstone only with lions and elephants instead of bears and bison. Just rent a car and drive around from dawn to dusk or any time you choose. Eat in restaurants or have a braai (bbq) for dinner. Fun! 2 nights at 2 main rest camps is the minimum I’d do, then 3 nights in a private reserve lodge.
Check out the lodges and choose whichever one meets your needs the best. There are so many great ones. They are very competitive in each budget so it’s tough to choose a wrong one. Please ask about anything.
