Trip with kids - help on packing and tips!
Hi there. This group seems really helpful on such questions so hoping for some tips. We leave next week for 10 days in Kenya (Meru at Elsa's) and Zanzibar - 2 families with 4 adults, 6 kids. Trying to keep the packing as light as possible. How cold will it be in the mornings and evenings in Meru in late June? Do we need more than a sweatshirt or fleece? Hats, gloves?
We are also set to visit a school and am going to bring supplies for the kids. Want to bring things they need and was thinking notebooks, markers, soccer balls, pens. Other suggestions??
Also, has anyone done a walk (with guide of course) in Meru and how is that?
I know I have lots of questions...thanks for anyone out there that could help!!

Here is the ultimate packing list.

I like a waterproof jacket as part of my wardrobe because you can get some rain and it keeps you warm when driving with an open top whips up the wind.
Good school supplies.
I've not walked in Meru but many times there are age requirements on the walks. Since you stated children were going, thought I'd mention that. You can find out if it is a short walk near the camp or a several hour outing into the bush. They are quite different in nature.

Thanks so much for the great link on packing list. Still wondering about how cold it gets in Meru in late June (next week arrival) so if anybody out there know if hats/gloves needed, please advise.

We were just at Samburu (same general area as Meru), it wasn't cold at all there. It reainded the first day, but mostly it was just the perfect comfortable weather - I unzipped the legs on the pants during the day, and kept the legs on them at night. No sweater, no hat & no gloves needed at all there. I would still take either a sweater or light jacket though, but no gloves or hat.

Thanks Lynda! When trying to make the weight limit every little bit helps so appreciate your reply. I was thinking the weather could not be that much colder than Nairobi so really helpful.
Hope you had a great trip!
