Thanks Amol. I appreciate your input and I had a feeling there was no way to turn the car in at the border. I still think renting the car the entire time is going to be the most cost efficient solution, even though it will be sitting most of the time.

I will also look into doing a 1 way rental to Polokwane (drop off) and get a transfer to Mashatu and back, then pick up the car again in Polokwane and drive to Mala Mala. Did you research that at all? Anyone?

My instinct is telling me to keep it simple, especially if there is not a huge price difference, but if there is, I may consider this option. Ok, I have taken up enough time on your thread. I will start a new one, thanks.

I didnt look into any alternative to renting a car for the whole trip. Admittedly the car was parked up for most of the trip, but every alternative was more trouble.

Amol, you mentioned at Mashatu there is mains electricity. Does that mean in the tents? Your report has so much helpful information, thanks. I have re-read it over and over and love your elephant encounter at crooks corner. BTW, there is a Dutch woman, Afke that mans the camera at Pete's Pond. Any chance that was the Aly you met?

Yes, they have main electricity in the tents as well as pedestal fans. Its comforting to have the fan in the room (and before anyone tries to get back, ITS NOT A NECESSITY AND I'D HAPPILY DO WITHOUT IT).

I am pretty sure the girls name was Aly (sp?). Afke might be a a different person.
