Traveling alone to Egypt
Hi all,
Thanks to all of your advice, I have finally finalized on paper my plan to go to Egypt in March 2010, but haven't paid yet.
However, now I'm getting apprehensive about traveling there alone. While I will be with a tour group, I won't have anyone to share the experience with. None of my friends can afford to go, and I won't know anyone in the tour group.
Has anyone else on the board felt the same way? This trip is a dream of a lifetime, and I"m giving it to myself for my 50th birthday, but don't want to go and feel alone there.
Any comments / advice would be helpful.
As always, thanks

I have not traveled to Egypt, but I have been on several group tour trips (mostly hiking/camping/adventure type trips) by myself. I've always found many friendly people in the groups and _always_ had a good time. I think you will too. It's a GREAT way to celebrate your 50th!

I am a female who has traveled alone to many parts of the world (including Egypt) and hooked up with a tour upon arrival. Once you are with your group you will instantly have friends and people to share your experience with. People in group tours become fast friends and IMO that's the biggest advantage of tours. I think you will have a great time and a very happy birthday.

Though generally an independent traveler, whether alone, with a friend or partner, I did a group tour to Turkey back in 1999. Though with a friend, we had a great time with the 22 other participants.
Even if I had been alone, it would have been outstanding... easy enough to make friends, whether couples, other singles (there were a few), even the group leader.
Go for it, Egypt is wonderful! Enjoy, as I'm sure you will.

Since you are in a tour group, you'll have the company of your fellow travellers. I'm sure you'll find many people who you get along with in the tour group and as you chat with them at meal time/on excursions, etc, you will enjoy their company. You will not be alone. Book, pack and go and celebrate your b-day in Egypt!
