Tipping on Tanzania Safari

We are in the final stages of preparing for our May safari in Tanzania. We want to know if what we have read is right about tipping: $10 per person per day? One website I visited state $15-$20 per person per day?
What is the norm? Needless to say, the quality of our driver/guide will impact the tip we give, but what is considered a fair tip?

On all safaris.....TZ, Kenya, SA, Bots.......i usually do $15 pppn for the guide....more, if i feel he is more deserving.....

I know there are guide lines, but i think...being privileged to visit these unspoilt destinations, we owe it to these deserving people who educate and guide all visitors.....by providing them with a better livelihood.

Lots of people, do $10.....but a few more is well appreciated

I agree with Hari, if the guide does a good job, tip above the guidelines. considering what we all spend to get there, an extra hundred or so dollars isn't going to break us, and it sure will go a long way to the guides, trackers, maids, laundry people, guards etc.

We paid our driver $400 for a 10 day safari (there were 2 of us) and we were told that the driver would have been extremely happy with that amount.

I too tipped four hundred for two of us on a 10 day drive. It was well worth it and deserved.

Should be a wealth of information on this topic on earlier threads. If you have not already done so I suggest a search.
