The fact that you've seen more blatant breaches of the rules doesn't mean that the thread didn't breach them - just that it was the one that got spotted by the board moderators.
At the end of the day any thread looking for participants in a safari trip is bound to be testing the boundaries, even if it's nominally described as not-for-profit. When it's started by an agent, even though I am MORE than willing to accept Mark's explanation that the trip is not about profit but about commemorating his father, it's bound to sail close to the wind.
And you make the point I originally made yourself - I SAID that not all of us would always agree with the moderators' decisions but, at the end of the day it is their call, whether we like it or not.

PS Please don't focus on me for your wrath now - I have nothing to do with the thread deletions nor do I even agree with many of them. I'm just trying to be rational about the situation since there's no point getting cross about it.
If you feel very strongly about it, you can always write to the site editors following the link provided in the Help pages.

Kavey,

I'm not cross about it, or about your point of view. I happen to agree with you about it's being the moderator's call. I was just expressing my opinion about the thread. Frankly, I don't care much either way. Why do forthright expressions of view have to be interpreted as 'being cross' about something?

Fair enough! I just didn't want people to think I was doing anything other than trying to look at things another way!

Back when I first started posting here (on the Europe boards in the main part) I would get much more indignant over what I and others perceived as bad calls but these days I realise that it's impossible to get a small group of 10 to agree let alone hundreds and hundreds of people so it's unlikely I'm ever going to agree with all the decisions made.

Having been a moderator on a very lively board myself, sometimes too lively, I don't envy the job!!!

Hi Guys
Its OK, really. Whether its the moderators or the Dik Dik its makes no difference. At the end of the day the moderators made the choice and I accept it. Its quite a pity though as it would have been quite a nice GTG in the bush.
I will however still advise when I have some of the old movies up on YouTube.

Mark, are you actually no longer doing the trip now the thread has gone? That would be a shame!

Hi Kavey
To be quite honest I can do this any day of the week I want, I just thought it would be nice to share it with some of you guys who love Africa the way I do and to do it the old fashion way which I do beleive most of you guys have not experienced. I don't want to harp on it as it may create the wrong impression that I am soliciting so I think at this stage we just leave it as is for the time being. I am off to Botswana on the 8th Jan which happens to be my late Dads birthday so in essence this is going to be for me a very special trip. I know my Dad would want me to go so I am off. I am going to put up a new thred as I would like to know if there is anyone who will be in Bots at the same time as me.

I think you should put the trip together and notify everyone by email. You can reach me here: sundownr313 at hotmail.com

I also look forward to seeing the videos!

Mark, absolutely appreciate you can do this anytime but given the outpouring of support and interest you received it seems a shame to give up so easily! Not speaking as a biased party here since I wasn't intending joining but wonder if you could at least display an email address by your user name (as I and others do) so those who were interested could contact you directly, take the whole thing off the forums but still keep it alive?
Just a thought and I'll go back to minding my own business now!
Best of luck,
Kav

Ditto on what Sundowner and Kavey said! And you won't find a better bartender than me. ;-)

Like I said before, count me in! You can reach me at

[email protected]

and then I'll tell you how old I am and I bet it's older than you!

We can, because there is no reason under the sun why we should not.
There is a forum on my own chat forum for this. I personally cannot give the URL but I am sure you will find it.

Well, why don't you just email me your address and website so I don't have to do the detective work.
Here's my email address. Make it simple for me. Please!

Hello Mark,

But late to this thread, I'm at home recovering from an operation, all very dull - I saw the original thread and wanted to reply.

My uncle lives in Cape Town, used to live in Pretoria and was a manager Casino manager at Sun City and other sun international casinos until the late 90s: I was last in RSA back in 93 and enjoyed a Kruger camping trip. I'm planning to bring the family back over in August 2007 (to coincide with school holidays here) and would be interested in meeting up if possible.

Feel free to email me at [email protected] with details of your plan: having roughed it in Tanzania this sounds like "my cup of tea"!

Best regards from Portugal,

Matt

So I'm trying to figure out what criteria you all use to determine whether it's unlawful advertising. It seems to me if you like the person, then you get together & support the guy. If you don't like him or he's new or not as enchanting when he advetises, there's no support forthcoming.

I don't mean to be a killjoy, but I just don't think that's fair.
