Tanzania July/Augst

Hi

I'm new to this site but was directed here from tripadvisor.

My fiance and I have bitten the bulllet and decided to change our honeymoon from Kenya to another desination, as we are not confident with travelling there at the moment.

We were thinking of travelling to Tanzania instead for a safari/beach holiday as we had planned in Kenya. But we have been advised that the wildlife has migrated to Kenya at this time. Is this true?

Any advice would be most welcome. We have to book with Kuoni or loose our deposit, therefore we will be limited to the Kuoni itinary.

Any suggestions for things to do etc? We were to visit the Sheldrick Elephant Orphonage in Kenya, take a balloon ride and stay in a tree house room as a treat. Does anyone have any suggestions for magical honeymoon experiences in Tanzania.

Many Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

You can still have a good trip in Tanzania. The wildebeest and zebra migration will be more in the Maasai Mara of Kenya as you get into August. But July should be fine. Just stay in the central to northern part of the Serengeti.

The other national parks in Tanzania are great in July and August.

With others thinking like you and July-August being good travel months anyway, you'll probably not want to delay.

This chart shows when wildlife viewing is good in different places throughout the year.

We went to Tanzania/Zanzibar July/August last year. Although the big herds of the Migration were in the Masi Mara our Safari included Manyara, the Crater, the Serengeti, and Tarangire before we went to Zanzibar and we saw all the big five plus everything else. We stayed in lodges and 'luxury' tents. It was one of the best holidays we have ever had. Go for it

Hi All

Thank you very much for your replies.

We have actually now decided to hang on and see what happens in Kenya. I hope we have made the right decision!!

Hi KevanF!

Could I ask who that was with as we are trying to make a decision and are currently snowed under with responses from Safari companies.

Cheers for your help,
David

We are going to Tanzania this July as we did on our last trip. The wildebeest migration is traditionally in the western corridor and northern Tz at this time, so it's a great time to go. Along with the herds come the predators...we saw 21 lions on our last day in the Serengeti when there last time. It's a great alternative to Kenya. You could follow your safari there with a beach holiday on the coast. Of course we all hope that the situation in Kenya will resolve soon. We will be in Nairobi as part of our travels and have no qualms about going there.
