Staying at Richard’s Camp is a definite MUST!

We had 3 fantastic nights at Richard’s Camp in September 2009. My husband and I wanted a personal touch and we certainly received this from our hosts JJ and Edwina as well as the owner Richard. Even though you are in tents, you wouldn’t know it. The beds are raised off the ground with full bedding and all the luxuries of a first class hotel! The food is fantastic and the service is impeccable.

We had planned our first Safari experience wanting to see the migration and a crossing. Our personal guide Nabala made sure that we accomplished this goal. We were able to see two crossings in one day. Many other tour companies and guides had to leave the bank of the river just before the animals crossed so their clients could return to camp for lunch. Nabala brought lunch for us that we had on the banks of the Mara River listening to the hippos!

Our tour operator, Tim Lapage of Safari Experts arranged everything for us and recommended Richard’s Camp for the Masai Mara portion of our trip. He was right – it was definitely a highlight. At Richard’s Camp you are treated as family!

We are going to be staying close to Richards camp in the Ol Chorro conservancy this summer. I have a few questions on Ol Chorro. Could you please provide details of your game drives in the Ol Chorro conservancy - did you see cats- I know there are Lions, how about Cheetah? Also, did you go to the actual Masai Mara. If so how far was it from Richards and how long did it take to reach the Mara. Finally, the Mara North conservancy. Any game drives there.

Thanks.

Glad you enjoyed your time at Richard's Camp! How were the other stops on your itinerary, Ol Donyo Wuas, Lewa? Will you be posting a full report?

AKR1 - Ngerende on Ol Chorro is still a bit of a ride from Richard's which is on the Mara North. Closest camp to Ngerende would probably be Fairmont Safari Club.

Because much of MMNC is short grass, cheetah's are regularly found here, which make hunting for them easier. Like the time we had the pleasure of one of these beauties on the bonnet of our vehicle... which we still talk about to this day. We've also seen lion in the area. And, since there are no fences, game can just as easily be found on nearby Ol Chorro.

A straight on drive, without stops for game viewing, from Richard's to the Reserve is about 1.5//hrs.

Sandi,

Thanks for the color on the game drives. Very helpful.

Just one correction- Richards camp is indeed the Ol Chorro not in the MNC. There are just three camps in Ol Chorro- Ngerende, Fairmont Safari Club and Richards Camp.
