Specific travel converter and adapters

For some reason I have been having a difficult time locating a "LOCAL" type D grounded travel adapter plug that will work for Tanzania.

I bought the following plug adapter at Radio Shack but Im not positive if the places I will be staying use the type D or type G version plugs. I know both may be used in Tanzania.

http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=search

It has the type G grounded adapter. And an ungrounded type D. Im leaving on the 10th so I cant really order anything now.

If anyone who has stayed at the following lodges can confirm for me what types of plugs were found I would appreciate it very much otherwise I will just try and find the right adapter in one of the airports on the way.

These are the places we will be staying at in Arusha and the rest of Tanzania
Mountain Village
Kibo Hotel
Lake Manyara Serena Lodge
Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge
Ngorogoro Sopa Lodge
Tarangire Sopa Lodge

and then a few days in Amsterdam.

By the way for those unfamiliar the G grounded style plug has the 3 flat blades 2 horizoontal 1 vertical

and the D grounded style plug has 3 all round pins.

Most places in Tanzania took the UK - big 3/flat prong adapter plug. Did find a few places that also accepted the European 2/round prong plugs, especially on Zanzibar.

Hotels/lodges often have extra adapter plugs if, for some reason, yours might not work... ask.

Sharper Image has a travel pack with different adapters that covers just about the whole world. It worked for me in Kenya, Rwanda, and Zimbabwe, and worked for my friends in Tanzania.

I have found that both are used, D and G, sometimes in the same lodge/camp. I always take both plus the others in that kit. You can't rely on the lodge having adaptors to lend you. I buy mine in a luggage store. In addition I always bring the M (South African) plug too.
Here's a good website for info: http://www.kropla.com/electric.htm

As others, I take my entire kit of plugs wherever I travel... you just never know. And, I don't like surprises. Kits are available for $15-$20.

Just returned from Tanzania a week ago and bought the same item at Radio Shack before the trip. The type G was what was used at the various CC Africa locations we stayed at - no problem. By the way, depending on what you are intending to use (I presume you are coming from the US), don't forget a voltage adapter as well.

Most electronics these days are made "dual-voltage" so need for the voltage adapter (taking you from US 110-120V to European/African 220-240V and to wattages anywhere between 1500-2000).

Don't use voltage adapter with max 1500 wattage for a device of 1850 wattage. Then remember to switch the voltage dial to 220 if the device has one, i.e., hairblower, curling iron. If not, you'll find a clump of melted plastic and twisted metal.

Photographic equipment should have the dual built-in and will work with no adjustment to the device, just need the proper adapter plug.
