Spain or Morocco or... both?

Already thinking about our next summer vacation... We usually spend 3 1/2 weeks in Europe, focusing on one, sometimes two countries. Had been thinking Spain for next year. We did a week in Madrid (with a couple of day trips to Segovia and Avila) and a ten day highlight bus tour many years ago. We have since been doing driving vacations on our own and really enjoy getting to see a country in depth and on our schedule. I have been reading Fodor's Spain and think there is plenty we haven't seen, Barcelona for one, running with the bulls for two but then I really don't want my husband to try that!
Then.... had a conversation with a friend who went on a political junket with his boss to Morocco and loved it. So where to go... how long would someone want to spend in Morocco if 3 1/2 weeks were available? No longer sure where to go? We love history, good museums and seeing different cultures . A concern for Morocco,Is it safe?

Hi!
My point of view is that since you have been already in spain,it would be much better for you to see another country; Morocco will be the perfect choice for you ;being African country makes it totally defferent from the whole europ.
Its a very beautiful country and very safe.

You can even spend few days in spain, and then fly to Morocco.
Nice trip

I had the same dilemma...how to fit both countries into one trip. I ended up just concentrating on Andalucia this year. Morocco will happen next year.

BUT, since you mentioned Barcelona, there are budget airlines that fly from Barcelona to Marrakesh and Fes. If you go to www.whichbudget.com you can figure out the airlines and their schedules.

Have fun.

We did a trip about 2 years ago that was 5 nights in Barcelona, 8 nights in Morocco with one more last night in Barcelona before flying home. We really liked the combination of the two. I definitely could have spent a bit more time in Fez and we didn't have time for Essouria. While you could spend the entire time in either country I like the idea of dividing them. I think two weeks in Morocco would have been max. for me - we loved the country, but I must admit, as great as the food was we did get a bit tired of tagine and kebobs - couldn't wait to return to Barcelona for a last night of fabulous tapas!!

Here is a link to my trip report if you are interested:

Thank you all for the input. I will read your trip report this evening jgg. I've just started reading back posts about Morocco for ideas and to get a feel for the country. My husband doesn't seem to be as on board as I for going to Morocco... but then he didn't think he wanted to go to Sicily until he read posts here and we ended up having a great vacation. I didn't think I wanted to go to Croatia until reading posts here and was glad to have had my mind changed!
