Now I remember. You're doing Namibia too. I also recall being interested in a trip report (no hurry) when you return since #1 looked interesting. I want to know more about Mashatu also.

Have a wonderful trip.

hi, i just got back from mashatu tented camp. we just loved it. it is more difficult to get to then other camps, but worth the time and effort. saw many animals, but they have no buffalo or rhino's if you want to see the big 5. it did not matter to us, as we had already been to bongani and they have large buffalo and rhino population. the cat's are great at mashatu. loved everything about the camp. very freindly, laid back, great food, good scheduling. very accomidating. let me know if you are looking for specific, but i highly reccomend the mashatu tented camp, and would return. thanks,

ps: we were driven from bongani to tzaneen, thru the drakenburgs, stayed the night at the coach house, and then driven on to pont drift border crossing. coming back, we were driven to polokwane and then flew from polokwane to jo'burg, and then on to cape town.

What did you think about the Coach House experience? Did you do any activites there or just rest the night?

Am trying to plan a 14 day trip in South Africa with 11 days open after we arrive in Johannesburg and three days are booked at the end to go to Capetown. We have our air tickets but no plans once we arrive... at Johannesburg on December 30th.

Any ideas? We may elect to rent a car... Botswana ok in January 1st or too hot?

Possibly to Windhok in Namibia? But pretty expensive. We do not want to go broke on safari.

Any reason to go to Mozambique? We do not do beaches and ocean chair -
sitting. Is it safe and are there good game reserves. Am concerned about poisonous snakes also. Do not want to get in trouble....

We only drink a bit of wine. But we live in wine country so nothing special about vinyards.

We do like wildlife - eco touring. We like seeing industry in cities and small villages - including farms, etc. And we have traveled the world and love seeing unusual sights, important places, history, unusual geology, etc.

I have read on the web that Madagascar has been ruined by timber cutting an dwe can drive ten miles and see clearcuts in the northwestern USA.

So open to suggestions....
