Some practical advice about Morocco
Hello, in April my husband and I have planned a 16 day trip through Morocco with a private driver/tour guide who came with good recommendations from a friend who is very knowledgeable on travel in Morocco and has lived there herself for some time.
We will travel by car from Marrakech to Merzouga with several stops on the way and plan to spend two nights in the desert. After that we will travel North to Meknès and Fez.
My questions:
1. I have heard from friends that in Morocco the mattresses in hotels and guesthouse in general tend to be quite firm, sometimes even to the point where they can be uncomfortable. As I am a back patient I wonder whether to bring a thin inflatable mattress to put underneath the mattress cover. Any feedback or suggestions?
2 Officially no special inoculations are mandatory for Morocco but given our ages (mid seventies) we don't want to take any risks. We are of course getting advice from a special travel clinic but I was just wondering what is your experience.
3. Of course we are aware of food and drink safety recommendations. Any extra suggestions welcome.
4. We wonder whether it would be advisable to bring some warm clothes although I guess that the temperatures in April will probably be quite warm during the day.
All and any suggestions are most welcome! Thank you in advance.

Morocco is delightful! I’m sure you’ll have a wonderful time.
1. My mattresses were all comfortable, but then, I don’t have any back problems.
2. Go with what your physician(s) say, so matter what anyone on this forum (or elsewhere) says!
3. I thought the food in Morocco outstanding. If you like wine with your meals, plan accordingly – it is not universally available.
4. The desert can get quite cold at night. Pack accordingly.
If you haven’t already seen it, you might find some useful information in my trip report:
Memorable, magnificent Morocco!
