Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage on "60 Minutes"

I received this e-mail from them today:

"60 Minutes recently returned to Kenya to film an updated feature on the work of The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. It will air on the 21st December and we sincerely hope you will have the opportunity to view the program."

I can't wait to see it and figured others here would be interested, too.

Thanks, I remember when they were there last time.

I'll consider it a Christmas Special.

I really enjoyed your photos, especially of the orphanage.

What fabulous and exciting adventures you two have experienced!

I caught the tail end of the program tonight and noticed it was the same clip as last year's. Maybe the beginning had some new info but I saw one of my orphans, Makena who is no longer a baby and has graduated from the nursery and moved to the next stage already.
Isn't it wonderful what they all do for the elephants? I hope to visit there one day. &lt

Woo Carla, Makena is my darling girl!
Seriously though Sheldricks website says:
A program featuring the Trust's work will be aired on 60 Minutes in the United States of America on the 21st of December. 60 Minutes returned to Kenya to film an updated feature on the work of The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, their previous story proved extremely popular in the States and first aired 3 years ago.

Yes, this was an update of a previously aired program. Last year, my sister and I visited the Sheldrick's near Nairobi. Our "babies" were Makena and Chyulu. Both have graduated out to the bush, as Carla says.

I agree with what Dame Daphne said about the ivory sales kicking up the poaching all over Africa. As Anita reported in her thread, the first ele we saw this year in Tanzania was a dead, poached elephant. This was in Sinya Reserve right across the border from Amboseli. The camp manager said that poaching was increasing in the area.

And there are still people (mainly from Southern Africa) who can see no correlation between "legal" ivory sales and poaching!!! Go figure.
