Serengeti in July
We are planning a trip to Kenya and Tanzania in July 2008. Whilst in the Serengeti in mid July we would like to see the migration. Whilst we realise this is hard to pick the best spot for, we have come across conflicting places it will be at this time of year.
Our question is out of the two accomodations we have had included in our itinerary which will be the best at this time of year. The accomodation is either the Mbalageti Tented Camp or Olakira Camp.
The selection is determined by the tour company Roy's and Green footprint with the itinerary being very similar, any comments on either of these companies also.
Thanks in advance.

Hello smiffs,
Well what dates are you looking at in july ?? and how many nights you wish to spend in serengeti ??
The migration, can be anywhere depending on the rains,
I would suggest a 4 night visit to the serengeti, with a split BTW sayari camp/nomads/tuc/kleins in northern serengeti and olakira/mbalageti camp
Basically asilia owns both olakira
and sayari

Mid-July is a bit tricky. Migrating herds - some can be in the western corridor; others already moving north on way into Masai Mara in Kenya.
Olakira is set in the Central/Seronera area, while Mbalageti is in the Western corridor. Central to Western is only a 2/hr drive and it's game viewing along the way. Whomever your guide, they should get you to where it's best for catching the migration, often out all day.
Oh, and the view from Mbalageti is outstanding, more so if the herds are out there.
To get to the north from the West, is a long drive, though I'd suggest Sayari. That said, however, it might still be too early for the migration... so hard to pinpoint. Nomad's, CCAs Under Canvas are good choices, but much more expensive. Klein's is a bit out of the way for July.
Regardless whether Mbalageti or Olakira, be sure either of the outfitters can confirm the space for the dates you need.

We're staying at both Mbalageti and Sayari in July next year in order to increase our chances of seeing the migration. We did something similar last year, but stayed at Lobo rather than Sayari. Staying at 2 different places is likely a good idea, and your guide should know where the migration is at all times.
