A Few Photos from the Everglades

http://tinyurl.com/38s2pb

I found myself in November with around 73,000 Delta MQMs, and needed to cross 75,000 to maintain Platinum status, so I took my first "mileage run", a trip to Florida last weekend, when I visited the Everglades. I have been there many times before, so I took very few photos, which are viewable via the above link. It truly is a unique ecosystem, very easily visited as a day trip from the Miami area.

Brilliant pictures Michael! Great variety of birds and reptiles, a special treat that you saw the very rare American crocodile. No doubt Everglades is one of the real crown jewels of the U.S. National Park system.

very nice Michael-I haven't been there in years. Did you see any manatee? I think this is the first set of pics without a license plate! Thanks for posting.

Very observant Dennis -- I was also in the Everglades last December, and during that trip I took photos of all of the signs, inlcuding the license plate, so I didn't need to repeat those photos this trip.

I didn't see any manatees on this trip, or ever in the Everglades for that matter, but I did snorkel with them at Crystal River in February 2001 (I was in Florida to see the Giants/Ravens Super Bowl).

Great photos. I especially loved the turtle and his markings.

Really great photos Michael. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. I explored the Everglades and did a study for NWF of the Okefenokee four years ago. The Oke is so pristine, you must add it to your list someday.

Nice use of the miles and a good destination, especially this time of year. Reminds me what a big adventure it was as a kid to go to the Everglades when visiting my grandparents in FL. Your photos make me want to go on that adventure again.

You caught lots of turtles exiting the water. Some big alligators. I know that crocs are larger, but I think a few of your gators would match up well with the crocs.

Hope the storms did not delay your return.

Thanks!
