Nice report. Good to hear about Lebala... it was the favourite camp of mine in my last visit.

I have heard a lot of good things about Charles. I think I will give him a try next time I am there (hopefully soon). Private vehicles are definitely the way to go...

Richard,

You can't go wrong with Charles. It's one of my favorite guides I like to work with and Kwando is lucky to still have him there.

Am I the only one wondering what the definition of independant operator is?

As for ignorance, I must be really in trouble, a Englishman living in California. Ah well, maybe my valet can book me into the spa for a coconut and jasmine body wrap.

I am an American who sadly cannot dispute sniktawk's description of many of my contrymen as "ignorant" and "noisy". I stayed at the newly refurbished Selinda camp shortly after it reopened in March 2007 and I was impressed with the facility and the enthusiasm of the young staff. My wife and I, however, were shocked at the stunning ignorance of the other American guests at the lodge. One woman from California loudly proclaimed that she never would have come to Botswana if she had known in advance that internet service was not available at the camps. She further complained (for everyone with a mile to hear) that "Botswana does a horrible job promoting itself in America, because they don't have any TV commercials!" Knowing glances from the staff members told us that they too were irritated by the loud and ignorant guests... but they kept a stiff upper lip and made the best of it. Clearly, noise and ignorance is not limited to the USA, but as a soft-spoken educated American, I am finding myself increasingly outnumbered... even in the most exclusive corners of the planet. Thank goodness for the high-quality travelers who share their well-reasoned thoughts here on the Fodor's message board -- proof that we are not all idiots.

Misteraviator,

I really do hope that the person complaining is in the minority! Honestly, i think travel agents need to do a better job in sending the right clients to the right camp or lodge. This is the result when all they try to achieve is a fast buck!!!

Have we not forgotten the posts from Travel agents on this forum stating....i am fine tuning my itinerary to substitue camp A for Camp X because this camp is so much more luxurious, silk duvets, Heated plunge pools and all the other BS? and oh! i have camp Y, not luxurious....but, i will put up with it as the gameviewing is meant to be good.......

Rgds,
Hari

Don't know if either Sniktawk or Johan experienced the bush dinner special at Selinda main camp during their recent visits?

Btw, off topic....for all people in the UK reading this, jellybeans have suddenly found popularity here in India after last week and can't wait for the grand finale at the Oval

We did not stay at newly refurbished Selinda. The onlt time we stayed at Selinda was in 2001 where we returned to find 4 lion cubs and two lionesses on our stoop. They then killed the sunbed and dragged the matress into the then dry Selinda Spillway.
Up until this our 8th visit we have never had a "bush diner".We were promised one in 2004 but were unable to go ahead as a result of the Selinda Pride eating a Hippo on the proposed site at bowling green!

This year we got our firstwhich was arranged by Shirley and Robin (you remember him the unpaid manager at Zib).
It was OK but would have been better if at had been held the night after when we had some interesting guests with us!
Thank you Mister Aviator for your comments.

No, didn't meet them. We had the full-time managers during my stay at Zib!

SINKTAWK,
That was a silly moronic statement regarding Americans. I have lived in both countries long enough to realize that neither has a monopoly on bad behavior. If I were you, I would keep my posts free of insults based upon nationality, race or religion. I for one, will not bother to read any of your future posts or to respond to threads that you participate in.

A bit of an over reaction.

Matt, I'm afraid I don't see it that way, you are of course entitled to view my reaction any way you like, just one of the freedoms we enjoy.

Safari Chuck.
I really do not care if you do not wish to read my reports! Why is it that you feel that is productive to issue personalised insults as a retaliation to a generalised comment. If you do not wish to have the benefit of other peoples comentary then why do you read these forums.Sticks and Stones etc.

Sniktawk,
I am deeply sorry if I have offended you but I have found that all British ex patriots living in South America are morons. All of my friends agree and so I feel this post is certainly warranted. Does the shoe fit, if so wear it I think "rickmck" put it very well in his reply, hope you understand his meaning.
No regrads-Chuck

Sniktawk,
In case the the irony of my last post escapes you, you might want to re-examine your own post, regarding "allies from over the pond", above. Denegrating the population of an entire nation of 300 million, based on your obvious and very limited experience, is indeed foolish. You were certain to elicit our collective tribal response just as has and as is represented above. As for your comment as to why I read these forums, simple-information about Africa. If you have a grudge against Americans, and it seems as though you do, take it elsewhere.

Do you intend to constantly denigrate me. I am quite frankly tired of your nonsense. If you have nothing to say other than insulting me then what is your point. If you do not like my generalisations, hard luck. Actually South Africa likes me and people like me!

No need for me to denigrate you, you manage well enough on your own.
Cheers
