Seeking comments about Global Aware Service Programs

We are contemplating a service program with GA in Laos, Cambodia or Thailand. There is very little information on the net other than the GA site. Has anyone used this organization and what can you tell us about the experience? We would like to know how the program is managed and supported. What are the housing and food arrangements? Thanks.

I was looking into a program too with several org. and the only one I could find any personal rec. for were Earthwatch. However, I just volunteered on my own with an org. that I discovered in Cambodia that was very flexible and it was a great experience. You might post this on the Asia board though for more responses.

I have posted it several places and have had some good responses. Thanks. Can you give me the name of the org, you were with?

I'd love to hear the responses you received-where are they?

I worked with the plf.org, which is a very small grassroots organization-everyone is a volunteer.

General Interest sections of Asia and Latin America. I do need to say I got some responses and they weren't all that good, I over stated the quality.

We have spent time in China, Jamaica, Rpmania and Ecuador working with various groups and are looking for a new adventure.

Any organizations that you'd recommend? I am also looking for another opportunity.

Our last two in Ecuador (June 2007) and Romania (Oct. 2008) have been through Global Volunteers. The cost is high, but the supervision of the in-country manager, lodging, food and general operation of the programs are excellent. Each country that they serve has a program to meet the specific needs of the local people and is designed and managed by the indigenous residents.

Our trips to China were with Global Language Villages of Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. There is nothing on the web-site, so we are thinking they may have terminated the program after 17-18 years. (They went last year, so we don't know what is up.)
