Europe,,,on to Asia question?

Greeting,..I am a Europhile and could go again and again.,,,however my husband wants to take a trip to China (Yantze river etc)
I'm not too excited about it, but do love to travel. I WILL switch over to the ASIA forum here on Fodors of course..., but just wanted to know if any of you other Europhiles know a some good trip reports or posts on China that I could access quickly..... or perhaps from your own experiences. (or anything really,)

If not, then I'll do the research on my own, but always can use help.
THANKS

mari5, I think this post will help you get started, and there are many other good reports over on the Asia forum:

You'll also get some very good advice if you post questions over there. There is slightly less traffic, but some very knowledgeable posters.

You can also subscribe to Oriental List. I'll dig out the coordinates and post them here for you.

Well, that wasn't as hard as I thought it would be:

A word of advice, as Neil_Oz and others might confirm: the Oriental List is aimed at the independent traveller more than the package tour joiner. It is also moderated with a very firm hand.

We spent a week in Beijing this spring. We made all of our own arrangements and did not use any guides while there. I hasten to add, though, that we had my Mandarin-speaking nephew in tow; that made things an awful lot easier.

Oddly, one of my most enduring memories was the food. We loved it.

Anselm: Thanks for your response, and I will access your mentioned sites further.

Yes, as I said in my post...I WILL read the Asia forum....and had already seen the first one you mentioned. Just thought someone would have a little insite as to personal experiences.(catching someone on the Europe forum that had had wonderful experiences in China) We too, almost always travel on our own.. as in "independent travels",,but we are not sure about China.
NOW ,on to the Asia forum>~>~~>~>~>~~>!

Here are two links (the first the trip report, the second for the pictures) of a dedicated Europhile's solo independent trip to China! I had a great time (although if you can avoid going in July...avoid! {melt, melt})

My first trip to Asia was actually to Vietnam, which is lovely and lower-key, but China is really a can't-miss experience, of course. I'd love to be able to go back, and for a longer time, but so many other places call...
