Hi Alejandra,

Thanks for the info! I will look forward to trying their mobile locations for next time, hopefully next year. Sounds good and will try the walk to the escarpment also.

Not on facebook, unfortunately.

My Spotter was Daniel - the Maasai guy and he was a very pleasant personality and he was really enthusiastic and into his job. My driver guide was Pius.

Regards
Hari

P.S: Alejandra - the Orpul sounds like a once in a lifetime experience. I was reading white Maasai on the plane back and there were similar references to this ...... However, I have been busy and can't wait to read the rest of the book - hopefully sometime in the next week or two!

sorry, forgot to answer - the fires were over. There is a lot of burnt area near Aitong and apparently, the two days prior to my arrival there was a lot of evening rainfall and there already is new grass attracting the tommies. I was lucky though, not a drop of rain and picture perfect blue skies!

Hello Hari,

Serian seems to be one of the places to go in the Mara.
To talk about another small camp.
Have you heard about Entim? It's right in the center of the park, only 5 tents. It's one of the bases of the Shah brothers when they are in the Mara.
It was recommended to me by my agent when I booked my trip, but as I wanted to be in the east and in the west, I did not choose it at least for this trip.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the info! Will keep that in mind for the future - I have also heard great things about Rekero Tented camp and their accent on great guiding and gameviewing.

Regards,
Hari

No DIV,

I am sorry, I do not have their present e-mail address.

I know that they charge about 425 USD per night per person.

Last week at this time I was at Entim Camp. This camp is a sister camp to Ilkeliani outside the Talek gate, where I visited one day.

The camp is unfenced and sited perfectly with amazing views and right in the path of where the herds arrive from Tanzania, with the river bend in front of the property and a crossing point. Will be ideal when the wildies are sitting on your front lawn. And, at night the hippos leave the river and lol around on the lawn, even keeping the staff and guides up one night while I slept like a baby. Admittedly, this was the only place (probably because on a hill) where it was really cold at night and in mornings... hot water bottles provided under the bedding. Breakfasts were taken on the lawn with fire going and me wrapped in a shukah!

A rustic camp with traditional tents, but nicely appointed with 3/queen-king and 2/twin bedded tents set on a low hill. Flush loos, running water showers, pitcher water in the washbasins. Meals were excellent, plenty of attention (I was the only guest); game drives were great and lots of game... where I saw leopard - a real beauty.

Entim (only open since Dec) is a nice new addition.

Div,

According to their website, not more than 5. Concerning the type of vehicle, I would not be surprised if they are open (like in Bots) but Sandi will be able to confirm you that or not.
With all the details given by Sandi, I can only be glad that there are still people that are opening camps which are really bush camps that are giving you the feeling that you are in the wild 24 hours on 24.

Thanks for sharing with us Hari. I just booked my flights, and will be stopping in Kenya / Tanzania for 10 days or so in early September. Looking at Rekero and Serian for the Mara, and will probably stop in Tanzania for a few days at the end to visit the Crater Lodge. Hopefully I'll catch some of the migration.

At Entim Camp, open vehicles, but being on the Equator, a cover to protect from the sun.

Hari,

Sounds like you had a great time at Serian and the photos are great. Thanks for the info on the bathroom. Still in the planning stage for August 2009 and would love to spend more than 4 nights in the Mara but the pocket might not allow it.

Hi Richard: Sounds good! You should hv a great time. See if you can get to do the Serian mobile camp, if you only have a couple of days with them. They will have a location inside the Mara Triangle that puts you in good access to migration crossings. Same thing, you should also be easily well located from Rekero (right at your doorstep - that's what I hear!)

I had the top removed for the entire 5 days. You do need a hat, but, a better game drive experience overall ....

Hi Georgie & Peter: Sounds good and sure your trip will turn out fantastic!

Cheers
Hari
