Hari, Loved your report, and so glad the cheetahs made appearances for you. I'm happy to hear about a camp that doesn't get a lot of mention here. Your endorsement speaks volumes.

Hi Hari,
Serian sounds fantastic. Wonderful game drives, a private vehicle for each guest, listening to the Mara from your tent at night, and to top it off you had multiple cheetah sightings. What a great trip!

Thanks, Dana. Yes, I had a great trip! I was WOWED every bit as I have been at other countries. Flexibility is a the operative term here - more than just the private vehicle. If you still are dictated by meal times or schedules the private vehicle would be useless!

In comparison, people lured by the 6 paw are really getting jibbed around a hell of a lot!

Welcome back Hari. I am so glad you had a great time at Serian and it was all you had hoped for and more. Pete and I are seriously considering Serian August 2009.

The game viewing sounds like it is great and the camp wonderful and relaxed. I am sold on that aspect. I do have a couple of questions. How far is the bathroom from the tent? Is it possible and safe to make the midnight dash to the bathroom (not quite ensuite I hear) or will I have to hold on all night?

Hi Georgie,

You and Peter will love Serian! Not scary at all .... it is just a few meters away and you walk through your look out deck to get there. They have lanterns outside your tent and so you don't turn it off (if that's what you want). Plus lanterns in the bathroom and torch light if you need it.

Other side of the river is, Ngare serian and that is en-suite. I.e., your tent opens out into the bathroom. I took a look at that - but, much preferred main camp!

But, for August - I am afraid to say 4 nights in the Mara will not be enough, Georgie. Too much going on there. I also highly recommend trying their mobile camp for a couple of nights that will be in the triangle and good access to migration crossings and the viewing over there .........

Cheers
Hari

Reading all these wonderful comments about Serian is really making me even more excited about our visit their in August. I know they will likely be full then but I think it will still be fantastic!

Glad you had a great time, Hari. I tried to catch you at Safarilink at Wilson Airport on your way to the Mara, but I think you were probably caught in the delights of the Nairobi morning traffic coming from JKIA...and I had a 9 o'clock meeting so couldn't wait any longer...hopefully we will meet next time!

It's good to hear Serian lived up to your expectations...and beyond, by the sound of things!

Take care -

Tanya

Hi Tanya,

That's right - It was rush hour all the way to Wilson ..... Sorry I couldn't meet up with you and Ian this time, but, I knew it was going to be close with your meeting at 9 Am.

Cheers
Hari

IMO Ngare has larger - nicer- lighter - new tents, including much bigger and better beds. Main camp is more charming but then you can just walk towards each side whenever you feel like.

Alejandra,

Have you stayed at any of their mobile locations on previous visits? If so, how did you like it in WRT Prime locations of the triangle or Talek areas?

Did you see any cheetah on your recent trip? If so, where abouts if you can remember.

Also, I hear the walk to the escarpment is too good to miss? I would have done that if I had may be two more nights -

Thanks
Hari

Alejandra,

Hari yes i have been to Serian's Talek Mobile camp location and for what i have seen this is a great spot on the river. Where as i normally really want to know where exactly i am, the time I was there we arrived late in the afternoon and just after we put up the tent it started to rain so heavily that we had to wait in the car until long after dark and then in the morning we packed fast and went back to camp. I have not stayed at their other location in the Transmara. Will def want to go back Mobile or flycamping at either location.

Yes we saw a cheetah, 1 , approx 2 km west of the Musiara gate towards the borderline with the reserve. Saw 3 lionesses with a cub at that same location. Also a big male grown up lion that seemed scared off by the shepherds running into the reserve. So much livestock around that area, crazy thing. Spotted the leopard male and female older cubs and their mom near Aitong, these have been in that area for months now.

I walked up the escarpment in March with a the anti-poaching patrol guys, after we crossed the bridge to Ngare we walked eastwards for at least an hour then zigzagging up, it gets rocky and we came accross shepherd with their cattle. Then walked on top of the escarpment west, the most beautiful views from up there. The going down part we did right accross Serian. The walk took 5 hours and is highly reccomendable, but this time i had almost no time and found the grass rather tall, you had 5 days so would have been perfectly fine.

who was your guide and driver? Were there still fires?
